OCS can be completed through the traditional 18 month (six moonth accelerated) program that consists of basic and Senior Officer Candidate Phases. To successfully complete OCS you must: |
* Pass 2 standard record APFT's |
* Complete a 3, 4 and 5 mile release run |
* Complete foot marches between 5-10 miles |
* Attempt to complete the Combat Water Survival Test and confidence obastacle course |
* Successfully complete separate day and night land navigation courses finding the correct number of points |
* Pass 10 academic tests and successfully (must score 70% or greater on all academic tests) |
* Serve in numerous evaluated leadership positions in both a garrison and field environment |
* Meet the standards of conduct and discipline as outlined in Army Regulations and the OCS SOP |
Phase Breakout Optional accelerated Phase II is broken down into four phases over six weeks |
Phase Zero: One weekend drill will be held each month in March, April and May, conducted at Gowen Field, Idaho. Administrative in-processing is conducted to ensure all applicants meet the minimum enrollment criteria. Drill and ceremony, physical fitness, and land navigation training are conducted to prepare the applicants for Phase I. Applicants must pass an Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) during this phase prior to being accepted into the program. |
Phase I: A two-week annual training is held in June with personnel reporting to Gowen Field, Idaho or Ft. Meade, S. Dakota. The training will focus on leadership and basic military skills. Candidates will receive land navigation training and testing conducted at the regional OCS training facility. |
Phase II (Traditional): IDT weekends will take place from July to June. Candidates are assigned to the 204th RTI. Candidates will perfect the skills previously learned and concentrate on military subjects such as ethics, military justice, logistics, personnel administration, NBC, tactics, and patrolling. |
Phase III: A two-week annual training will be held in August. Candidates will be flown to Ft. Lewis, Washington. Tactics and patrolling will be conducted and leadership skills evaluated. Upon completion, candidates may be commissioned pending federal recognition. |
Phase II (501): The Accelerated Phase II is held at Ft. Meade, S. Dakota in July immediately after successful completion of PHASE I in June. Candidates will spend 4 weeks perfecting the skills previously learned and concentrate on military subjects such as ethics, military justice, logistics, personnel administration, NBC, tactics, and patrolling. You must meet certain age and educational requirements to qualify for the Fast Track Program. |
